Red Faction: Guerrilla
Since Red Faction: Armageddon, which came out in 2011 and didn’t do well at the box office, the series has been silent. The shame of this is that Red Faction: Guerrilla, which came out in 2009, showed what a great series it could have been. In that game, players controlled Alec Mason, a miner who became a resistance hero, as he freed Mars from the Earth Defense Force one crushing hammer swing at a time.
Red Faction: Guerrilla is a very sci-fi game that takes place in the year 2125 on a Mars that has been changed into a park. Making the environment destructible is a great feature that makes players smile even more as they fly around the red planet. This Red Faction game was so popular that it got a remake in 2018 called Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered Edition.
Soma
Frictional Games is an experienced developer of survival horror games that always give players really scary and exciting experiences that usually happen in the past. Soma, which came out in 2015, took a different approach. It was set in the year 2104 on a study station at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.
As Simon Jarrett, players have to find their way through a crumbling research base full of biomechanical monsters and across the dangerous ocean bottom, where monsters hide in the dark. Soma is a great game for science fiction fans who also want to experience horror. It explores awareness and identity in a way that will blow your mind.
Returnal
An strange world. A cruel loop in time. Combat that is hard and has roguelike aspects. Returnal, which comes out in 2021 from Housemarque, is sure to please and excite anyone who hears it. In this future third-person shooter, players take control of Selene Vassos, an astronaut who gets lost on the planet Atropos and has to find her way around, even though death is not the end.
People liked Returnal when it came out, and it even won a lot of awards, including Best Game at the 18th British Academy Game Awards. Returnal is a wonderfully varied and difficult experience for fans of futuristic video games because it has both an epic sci-fi story and philosophical themes.
The Last Of Us
People who play The Last of Us, an action game set after the end of the world, probably don’t think much about the time period in which it takes place because they are too busy trying not to get killed by zombies that look like plants. The beginning of the game takes place in 2013, but most of the action takes place in 2033.
The 2020 follow-up to The Last of Us was also well received, but it would be very hard to beat the effect and praise of the first game. Players were immediately drawn into Joel and Ellie’s journey as they searched the sick United States for a mystery group that said they had found a cure.
Horizon Forbidden West
Aloy was the major character in Horizon: Forbidden West in 2022, and she quickly became a PlayStation icon when the game came out in 2017. Horizon Forbidden West takes place in the far future, in the 31st century. The bow-wielding Aloy continues to look into the broken buildings of a time when nature had taken over.
It is never really shown what happened in this world that caused it to fall apart. Players can only figure it out by looking at the broken towns and lost technology that are left behind after 1,000 years. Gamers stay hooked to their controllers because of how mysteriously Aloy found out about the world before. The epic battles against giant robotic dinosaurs also help.
Destiny 2
Developer Bungie wasn’t happy with making the Halo series, which is one of the most popular science fiction first-person shooter franchises of all time. After handing over control to 343 Industries after Halo: Reach, it made Destiny, which was also a very popular science fiction first-person shooter franchise.
The first Destiny game blew up the live-service video game world, and when Bungie released Destiny 2 in 2017, players loved it just as much. The story takes place in the 28th century, and players are in charge of the Guardians’ fight against the forces of Darkness in the Solar System and beyond.
Dead Space
When the company Visceral Games was shut down in 2017, fans were very upset about its most famous game, Dead Space. That the fans are truly disappointed shows how much they love the series. Even though there are other games in the series, it would be hard not to choose the first one, Dead Space, released in 2008.
In the year 2508, players take on the role of the amiable engineer Isaac Clarke and travel the empty and bloody spaceship USG Ishimura, fighting infected creatures called Necromorphs that split bodies in half and trying to figure out what happened to make things so bad. There was even a remake of the game in 2023, which shows how popular it still is in the sci-fi video game world.
Fallout: New Vegas
Fans of video games have always liked the Fallout series, from the first game’s overhead view to later games’ action RPG changes made by Bethesda. The Fallout games are set many years after a terrible nuclear war between the US and China. Players love getting lost in the retrofuturistic end of the world that the games create.
Even though Bethesda owns the IP, many fans still think that Fallout: New Vegas, which came out in 2010, is the best Fallout game. In Penalty Kick Online, players look for their would-be killers in what used to be the area around Las Vegas. This game acts as a sort of bridge between the third and fourth main games in the series.
Portal 2
There are many things about Portal 2 that people really like, such as its humor, voice acting, and games, and these are just a few examples.
In an unknown far future, the player takes control of the main character, Chell, and must teleport their way through puzzles and fight tricky A.I. bad guys Glados and Wheatley in order to escape a long-abandoned Aperture Science facility. Voices of Hollywood stars like Stephen Merchant and J. K. Simmons help the player along the way.
Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, & Mass Effect 3
As far as players are concerned, the Mass Effect franchise is the most popular science fiction video game series ever. The Mass Effect series follows Commander Shepard, whose gender and personality can be changed to make them more like the player. In this movie-like fight for humanity’s survival in the 22nd century, players search the Milky Way.
Mass Effect is a sci-fi game that takes ideas from classics like Star Wars, Dune, and Star Trek. It goes even further by matching the scope and acclaim of these series, making it one of the best sci-fi games ever made.
